Why the control matters
A parking lot protects an agenda only when deferred questions return to an owner and decision path. Without that discipline, it becomes a polite archive for issues the team did not resolve.
Build the record
Capture the question in decision-ready language, requester, context link, accountable owner, next action, due date, destination forum, and reason for deferral. Keep restricted discussion in the approved meeting record.
Run the workflow
Classify each item as answerable offline, requires analysis, belongs to another owner, needs an executive decision, or no longer merits work. The facilitator may propose the path; the accountable leader accepts it.
Review the evidence
Review open items before the next meeting and show aging. Do not automatically put every item back on the agenda. Some should close with a written answer, merge with existing work, or be declined explicitly.
Close the loop
Measure ownership acceptance, on-time closure, repeated deferrals, and items reopened because the answer lacked evidence. A healthy queue makes tradeoffs visible rather than claiming every question deserves immediate analysis.
Authority and limitations
Turn a Leadership Meeting Parking Lot Into an Owned Queue is an operating workflow, not legal, financial, security, employment, travel, or governance advice. The executive office should approve authority, information handling, retention, and exception ownership before using it.
